What we are achieving here is the “halo” effect. During the pupa stage in the life of a midge, the exoskeleton traps gases and becomes silvery in color as if it has a glowing shell.
The body of the Bettie series glows with this halo effect and has the segmentation of the natural insect. This along with the “hot spot” and bulbous head make the Betties the new hot sauce.
Black Bettie is tied on a Tiemco 2457 and incorporates a brass bead. This heavier version is great for getting down deep.

Is tied on a Tiemco 2312 hook, the unique body material incorporates a “halo” effect of natural midge pupa. Included on this series of fly is a “hot spot” of bright orange, which imitates the wing case and is in general an excellent attracter color for trout of all varieties.
This Bettie is made with a glass bead and lighter wire hook for more subtle presentations or where a natural presentation is required. Many times in the past I have found that glass beaded midges will out perform heavier brass or tungsten beads.

2nd to the last day of the fly-fishing season at about 3:00 in the afternoon, this fly was cast out and landed next to the bank, after two, quick eight inch strips a eleven pound hybrid engulfed it! That ended up being the biggest fish for me during the season of '07.
After trying this fly out in a variety of different combinations of tail colors, this one proved to be the "fishiest".
Zoni leech's are made with Arizona Synthetics simi seal in which John Rohmer has blended and spectrumized this product into many fish catching colors. I had the pleasure of meeting John along his group of float-tubers this fall, and to say the least, the fish catching show they put on was impressive. John is the cutting edge of fly tieing dubbing btyeingrlight now and the appeal these flies have to all different species of trout proves it.

My #1 fish catcher this year on the Henry's lake and on some other not so well known local stillwaters. This fly accounted for many fish over five pounds this year.

Some days the fish want a light color and this is the one that would be tied on the end of my tippet. This is the color called "crawdad" by AZ Syn. but after the last few months of fishing it in the waters of SE Idaho and Montana I might want to call it "savestheday".
